The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)'s annual Safe+Sound Week is just around the corner, going from August 10-14.

The nationwide event, begun by OSHA, aims to recognize the steps businesses have taken to improve workplace safety and health and showcases ways to keep workers safe.

Why Participate?

Implementing and continuing a safety and health program that includes management leadership, worker participation, and a systematic approach to finding and correcting hazards are all part of improving business safety performance and competitiveness. 

Successful safety and health programs enable potential hazards to be identified prior to causing illness or injury and ultimately improve sustainability.  

Participating in Safe + Sound Week can help companies start a safety and health program, energize an existing one, or provide time to recognize safety successes or address concerns.

Furthermore, highlighting and improving overall safety and well being can also have positive economic impacts on a businesses. 

There are multiple ways to participate in Safe+Sound Week, including taking part in one of the Core Element Challenges in Management Leadership, Worker Participation or Find and Fix Hazards. Ways to participate can be found at https://www.osha.gov/safeandsound/activities.

Who Participates?

According to OSHA, any and all organizations looking for opportunities to recognize their commitments to safety and health are welcome to participate in Safe + Sound Week. In 2025, more than 4,600 businesses helped raise awareness about workers’ safety and health.

Events.

In the Houston area, an OSHA #7500 Introduction to Safety and Health Management class will be held on August 14, 2026 from 7 am until 4 pm by the Associated General Contractors (Houston Chapter).

The training will cover the implementation of an effective health and safety management system and address the seven core elements and central issues that are critical to the management of each of the seven elements. The training session will provide participants with the ability to evaluate, develop and implement an effective health and safety management system.
